It’s been a month since we officially moved in to our new home and to say we’ve been busy is an understatement. There is the obvious work around emptying boxes and finding a place for everything, and then a better place for everything, but then there is the work to make the place a home. Painting, cleaning, furnishing. Every time I knock something off my list 3 more items show up.
The good news is the previous owners took great care of the house. Everything that needs to be done is minor and mainly aesthetic. This frees up time for me to focus on much more entertaining projects. You have already seen the coffee table that I cranked out in a weekend, then I started working on putting together all of the Christmas presents, and working on our dining table.
On the subject of Christmas presents requiring some assembly:
The other day I was on a local parenting Facebook group and there was a conversation about putting together their kid’s play kitchen. “It took my husband 18 hours to put it together!” “We had to call Ikea 4 times!” it went on… We were considering buying one of these for the Wee Baby T, but after reading this I thought – I’ll bet I could make that and have it assembled and painted it in a weekend.
I give you – The MadeByMe Swedish Toy Kitchen – complete with sink, cabinets, shelves, countertop, and rounded edges to prevent head bashing. It may not be exactly the same thing, but it only cost $35, and took me about 12 hours to cut free-hand and assemble from a single sheet of plywood.
I’m loving designing and building these projects! Got something you need around the house? Let me know, I’ll take a crack at it!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year. I’ll try to keep up with posting over the next few weeks, but there has been so much to do, and the arrival of T’s sister is imminent, so bear with me!
Good luck out there.
